At the behest of some, here are some photos from Basque country.
From the surfing town of Sopelana:
The bombed village of Gernika (Guernica):
The mother city of the Basque, Bilbao:
The second photo of Bilbao is our university. Quite beautiful, no? The first photo is the Guggenheim, as seen from the entrance of our university. So it's just across the river. There is a crazy bridge that runs from our university to the lap of the Guggenheim.

Great pictures Pat. The University photo is quite something! How old is the building?
ReplyDeleteThat particular building is only about 150 years old. The buildings vary in age. Some are quite obviously from the 19th century, and have that neo-Gothic look that's very typically of 1890-1910 Sullivan skyscrapers in Chicago. I like all the buildings except one that's behind the one pictured. It's a horrendous concrete disaster from the 70's.
ReplyDeleteThe Guggenheim is certainly an interesting piece of architecture! I see you wore your "American" jacket to the beach town instead of your recent European purchase.
ReplyDeleteIt looks cold in most of your pictures - sort of winter-dark. Hope your spirits are bright in contrast.
Love ya,
Mom
By the way, what's with: "Quite beautiful, no?" !! I guess you definitely are thinking in Spanish, along with word placement.
